The cover photo of our May - August 2008 issue of
the Railroad Evangelist magazine is a photo of the famed "Wabash
Cannonball".
The Wabash Cannonball"
is an American folk song about a fictional train, thought to have
originated sometime in the late
nineteenth century.
Its first documented appearance was on sheet music published in
1882,
titled "The Great Rock Island Route" and credited to J. A. Roff. When the
song gained popularity,
Wabash Railroad
named its express run between Detroit and St. Louis as the Wabash
Cannonball. The Wabash Cannonball in the above photo was taken in
Detroit, Michigan in front of the Fort Street Station in 1934 in preparing
to leave for St. Louis, Missouri.
The Railroad Evangelist magazine has been in
print since 1938. It is a 16 page black and white (normally)
publication printed on glossy white paper 3 times a year and is used as
the official tool of the Railroad Evangelistic Association. It is
used to help spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to the entire railroad
community worldwide which includes but is not limited to the railroad
industry, the model railroad hobbyist and the rail fan enthusiast.
Will you help us spread the Good
News by subscribing to the Railroad Evangelist magazine ($8.00 a year -
See Subscription information) and by sending this page to an interested
friend? Thank you.
